Mapped Legacy dvc Files

New! - SayWhat7 (for ONLY viewing Legacy dvc files) is now compatible with ScanSoft patch (version 7.2). If you have already installed SayWhat7 for NaturallySpeaking 7.0, you can download the following zip file, and copy both of the included files, replacing the versions in your existing installation (c:\program files\SpeechUtilities by default). If this is your first time installing SayWhat7, you must use the full version install at the bottom of this page.

NaturallySpeaking Professional Series for Version 7 continues its support for mapped legacy dvc files, with a couple of notable exceptions. For a more complete discussion (but written for version 6), see this link.

One notable exception is the removal of the version 5 Edit Command Wizard, which led to my inability to continue supporting updating of mapped legacy dvc commands in SayWhatPro7. This also led to my decision to also remove Viewing of mapped legacy dvc files in SayWhatPro7. (See below for a solution to this). (Note: SayWhatPro7 still fully supports the full range of editing, including creating, of legacy KEYS and SCRIPT commands in the mycmds.dat file).

The only other change relating to mapped legacy dvc files is removal of the NLC command "import custom commands" which was documented in the link in the first paragraph above.

You can still manually map your legacy dvc files if desired. I personally no longer have any user created mapped legacy dvc files, but I believe that KnowBrainer continues to use this method.

SayWhat7 Solution to Viewing Mapped legacy dvc files

I have now adapted the original SayWhat for version 5 so that there is still a way to easily view these files. This is SayWhat7. It has all the original features (including printing command lists, Exporting dvc files, and the original View options). SayWhat7 is freeware, and may be downloaded at the bottom of this page.

Run the SayWhat7Setup.exe to install it, then say "start legacy say what" to invoke it. Enjoy!

I realize there could be some name confusion with the different variants in the SayWhat family. Here are some guidelines:

SayWhat - The original version 5 Viewer
SayWhatPro - For version 6, freeware Viewer and registered Updater
SayWhatPro7 - For version 7, freeware Viewer and registered Updater
SayWhat7 - For version 7, mapped legacy Viewer
