SayWhatPro? (Version 2.2)

SayWhatPro is a macro file viewer/editor utility program for ScanSoft Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional Series Version 6 only. Users of SayWhat for NatSpeak Pro 5 will feel right at home. It provides functionality similar to "What Can I Say?" did in DragonDictate.  That is, it provides a list of voice commands available in the current scope (global, program, or window) with hands-free menu navigation to all commands in all windows for which commands have been created in your macro file(s). In other words, cruise easily through all Dragon and user created voice macros!

Why another command browser?  After all, Dragon has provided 2 (well, just 1 in 6.1) completely new command browsers in version 6.  Answer: SayWhatPro has features and usability the supplied browsers do not have.

As far as I know, SayWhatPro is the first and only third party version 6 macro viewer program available. It comes in two levels, a freeware level, very similar to the old version 5 SayWhat, and a registered level, where almost all commands can be edited and created. The rest of this page will describe the freeware version only.

It is very handy for those situations where you know you have a macro defined for some task you want to perform but you can't remember what command phrase you called it. Furthermore, the actual command details are available to view. Other features include:

  • Printing a list of COMMANDs!
  • Exporting to .dvc file format (handy for sharing or moving macros among applications or users).
  • Exporting to pseudo dvc file format (handy for studying the new version 6 type macros)
  • Exporting to spreadsheet format
  • All of the above can be narrowed down in various ways and all can be sent to a printer, a file or the Windows Clipboard.
  • Powerful searching (in COMMAND names, in macro body, in Scope name)
  • View options-including Appmode, Dvcmode, follow 1 COMMAND and all its LISTs, show all COMMANDs that reference 1 LIST, turn on/off viewing of KEYS, SCRIPTs, Text and Graphics, Macro Recorder, Step-by-step, Advanced Scripting and LISTs, turn on/off Legacy dvc files, mycmds.dat file.
  • The new Groups designations can be followed as well.
  • New File, Open -- you can now look inside Exported .dat files

In case you hadn't noticed it, most of the above features do not exist anywhere else (including Dragon)! For a detailed command listing see Command Help.

  • I really designed the original SayWhat for version 5 for myself being frustrated about the lack of functionality that used to exist in Dragon Dictate, but thought that I would extend it to the NatSpeak Pro community and can't believe how much more work it was between the "for me" and the "community" version! My decision to continue into version 6 is related to unhappiness with the Dragon supplied browsers in general, and the inability to dictate into the Advanced Scripting window in particular. I have decided to make the original freeware version 5 feature set continue to be freeware in this version also, although some have advised a fee. Hope you continue to like it! Let me know.

Known limitation:

  •  Some large graphics (Text and Graphics commands) will not display properly.

Screen Capture

This program was written in Visual Basic using (of course) NatSpeak Pro version 6.
